Work life balance

Pandemic has taught us one thing — UNCERTAINTY. There has been a significant drift over past couple of years in the mode of work. On one hand, although it has given us more flexibility and quality time has been saved in activities like commute and other peripherals. While on the other hand, it had its adverse effects on availability and work life balance. These can have severe impacts on productivity on a long run.

A few small measures can be very effective to combat it.

1. PRIORITIZATION

Prioritization of tasks and time can be done based on 4 categories

A. Urgent and important
B. Important but not urgent
C. Urgent but not important
D. Neither important nor urgent.

2. PEAKS AND TROUGHS

Act according to our peaks and troughs. Some are morning persons, and some are night persons. Based on what we are we must pick tough, high-concentration tasks for ourselves.

3. HAVE A DESIGNATED PERSONAL TIME

We must have some me time. This plays a very important role in having our batteries recharged.

4. WORKSPACE

Have a designated workspace. A separate space for work which should not be mixed with other activities such as having lunch. Mimicking our office at home can have a psychological effect and that is how we can draw a line of distinction between our personal space and office space.

5. BE REALISTIC

We must be realistic. A small retrospective at the end of the day can be very beneficial. A small self-analysis on what worked today and what did not. This can help to plan coming days better.

There are only few things that I could think of. There are multiple other measures which can be very effective in maintaining a healthy work life balance.
